Generous 8-year-old gives back

Joshua Hergott-Dumoulin certainly proved that he has a big heart.

The eight-year-old Alliance student won a bike as a reward for raising more than $500.00 for Jump Rope for Heart.

But instead of hopping on his new wheels and going for a ride, he asked if he could donate it to another child.

With Joshua’s mother Connie, a former board member at Big Brothers Big Sisters, the family felt the Big Brothers Big Sisters office was a good place to bring the bike.

On Tuesday, Joshua and his parents arrived at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office and presented the new bike to 8-year-old Sebastian and his Grandmother.

“Sebastian’s reaction to seeing the bicycle was priceless,” said Darlene Jamieson, Big Brothers Big Sisters North Bay and District Executive Director.

“He jumped up and down and talked about how excited he was to ride it after he gets a helmet.”

Jamieson said the interaction between the two boys after the gift giving was priceless.

“He approached Joshua with a handshake and said, ‘I want to tell you that what you've done for me is really nice and you've made me very happy,’” recalled Jamieson about the conversation between the two eight-year-olds.

Joshua happily accepted the kinds words along with a handshake and a small bouquet of “Thank You” balloons for his good deed.

"The world would be a much better place if there were more people in it like you,” stated Sebastian’s Grandmother.
