Gathering Place numbers up in March

Volunteers at North Bay’s Community Soup Kitchen served a total of 1,798 meals to Neighbours-in-need throughout the month of March – an increase from February total of 1,479 meals.

The kitchen served an average of 82 meals per day throughout March, up slightly from the average of 74 meals per day in January, which brings the total number of meals served since the opening of the facility in September of 2003 to 73,193 meals.

Here is the demographic break down for the number of meals served at The Gathering Place during February:

- 1,166 were served to adults (aged 25-60)

- 405 were served to seniors

- 220 were served to young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 years of age

- 4 pre-schoolers

- 3 school-aged children under 16

The Gathering Place accepts debit, Visa and Master Card donations. It is located at 392 Algonquin Avenue and serves a hot, nutritious lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Book Fair

The Gathering Place will be hosting a “Book Fair” on Friday, April 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and again on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event will take place at the Holy Name Church Hall on Memorial Drive. There is an entrance fee of $2.00 and books will cost $1.00 each. Coffee and tea will be available for purchase. All proceeds from this event will go to The Gathering Place.

The Gathering Place wishes to remind our Neighbours-in-need that we will be open on Good Friday and Easter Monday to serve our mid-day meal. We will be offering a festive holiday meal on Easter Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
