Freezing rain is expected today.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • West Nipissing - French River
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet
  • Huntsville - Baysville
  • Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
  • Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park

Expect periods of freezing rain today.

A band of freezing rain will cross northeastern Ontario later this morning into early this afternoon as a warm front approaches from the southwest.

Total ice accretion of 2 to 5 millimetres is possible.

The freezing precipitation will come to an end across all regions by mid-afternoon as milder air in the wake of the warm front helps to lift the temperature above the zero degree mark.

Environment Canada is calling for clouds with periods of snow mixed with ice pellets beginning this morning then changing to freezing rain near noon and ending this afternoon then a 60 per cent chance of drizzle late this afternoon.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving to changing road conditions.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
