Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for:

  • North Bay - West Nipissing,
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity,
  • New Liskeard - Temagami,

Current details:

There is potential for a freezing rain event across a large part of Northeastern Ontario Sunday into Monday.

A large low from Texas is expected to track northeast towards Lake Superior later this weekend into early next week.

Latest indications show that precipitation will arrive Sunday morning in the form of snow or freezing rain, then eventually turn over to rain Sunday night over southern areas, and Monday over areas further north as a warm front associated with the Texas Low moves through.

There is still uncertainty as to the exact track of the low and timing of the warm front, which would affect how quickly snow or freezing rain changes over to plain rain at a particular locale.

Motorists should be prepared to adjust travel plans accordingly, as there is potential for untreated surfaces to become icy if the freezing rain develops.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation.

Freezing rain warnings may eventually be required as the event draws closer.
