On Wednesday, former deputy mayor Sheldon Forgette was released on bail from the North Bay courthouse.
According to court documents, Forgette was arrested on both Sunday, Oct. 9, and Monday, Oct. 10.
Forgette faces five charges, including two each for assault and mischief under $5,000 plus one for forcible confinement from the Sunday arrest.
Court documents show Forgette was subsequently arrested on Monday and charged with failing to comply with the undertaking associated with his release from the previous day's arrest.
Forgette was released on a separate undertaking with conditions Wednesday.
None of the charges listed above have been proven in a court of law.
Forgette's next court date is scheduled for Nov. 8.
Forgette's arrest comes less than two weeks before the Oct. 24 municipal election. He is attempting a political comeback by running as a North Bay city councillor candidate after sitting out the last four years following his loss in the mayoral race in 2018. In 2014, Forgette took the municipal landscape by storm, rising to the top of the council race and serving as deputy mayor and budget chief.
