Forest Fire caused delays on Highway 17

Matt McDonald wasn't surprised about seeing a traffic delay on highway 17.

Matt McDonald wasn't surprised about seeing a traffic delay on highway 17. However, the North Bay resident was shocked when he realized the traffic was stopped because firefighters were battling a fire on both sides of the highway 17 between North Bay and Sturgeon Falls.

McDonald, who was third in line at the time of the traffic delay, says flames were visible on both sides of the highway from his vantage point.

The blaze, that we first reported Saturday afternoon, was eventually put out by firefighters and highway was re-opened.   Mcdonald said the delay was only about 30 minutes and then emergency personnel opened up single lane traffic.
