Forest fire air pollution advisory continues today

Smoke plumes from active fires in northwestern Ontario and eastern Manitoba will affect the area resulting in deteriorated air quality across much of northern Ontario

High levels of air pollution due to smoke from ongoing forest fires. has prompted Environment Canada to continue its special air quality statement.

It remains in effect for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • West Nipissing - French River
  • South River - Burk's Falls
  • Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
  • Huntsville - Baysville
  • Port Carling - Port Severn
  • Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park
  • Bayfield Inlet - Dunchurch

Smoke plumes from active fires in northwestern Ontario and eastern Manitoba will affect the area resulting in deteriorated air quality across much of northern Ontario.

Conditions are expected to improve this morning after winds shift to a more northerly direction with the passage of a cold front.

If you or those in your care are exposed to wildfire smoke, consider taking extra precautions to reduce your exposure. Wildfire smoke is a constantly-changing mixture of particles and gases which includes many chemicals that can be harmful to your health.

You may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches, or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

The forecast for today sees cloudy skies with a few showers beginning early this morning and ending this afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm this morning and early this afternoon.

High 17 with temperature falling to 14 this afternoon.
