Dave Fluri, NDP candidate for the new riding of Nipissing-Timiskaming, is calling on the government to help beleaguered motorists when it comes to filling up at the pump.

"Unlike the other parties, the NDP has practical ideas to help people break free from the burden of high gas prices".

"By setting up an independent commission, similar to the ones that regulate the phone and cable television companies, we would force the oil conglomerates to justify their price hikes and stop the senseless gouging."

"We've already seen the best the other parties have to offer," said Dave.

"After more than 10 years in power, the Liberals have done absolutely nothing to foster the use of public transportation, nor have they required automakers to produce fuel-efficient vehicles. The Conservatives have no lessons to teach us, either. Voters haven't forgotten that they're the ones who put the GST on gasoline in the first place."

Dave states that Prince Edward Island generally maintains lower gasoline prices than those seen throughout the rest of the country.

"Gas prices in PEI are regulated by the provincial government, and can change no more than once a month. It's has been a very effective strategy for maintaining lower prices."
