FLOOD WATCH This is a Flood Watch notification: Localized areas are currently experiencing minor flooding within the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority watershed.

Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should prepare.

Note that this Watch is issued for the Chippewa Creek subwatershed which has reached its top-of-bank level. All other watercourses, including the La Vase River, Parks Creek, Duchesnay Creek, Wasi River and watercourses flowing into the Mattawa River system are experiencing minor flooding.

The system that passed through a large portion of Northeastern Ontario beginning Tuesday afternoon, and which continued through the overnight hours, will continue to drop rain in the area into Wednesday morning. The potential for isolated thunderstorms remains possible with this system before it dissipates this afternoon.

Risk
As of 6:00am this morning, the North Bay area has received 40mm of rain since the rain began on Tuesday.

This has caused ground conditions to become more saturated and water levels to rise. Chippewa Creek,

North Bay, has reached its top-of-bank level while other watercourses throughout the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority watershed are also experiencing increased levels and flows.

This trend will continue through the morning as an additional 10-15mm is being forecasted, with the potential for embedded thunderstorm activity.

Streamflows are above seasonal values across the NBMCA watershed, while ground conditions remain saturated. The rainfall forecasted over the next 6 to 8 hours could overwhelm local drainage systems, some of which are currently experiencing localized flooding.

All residents, especially those in low lying areas, are encouraged to monitor the conditions that are developing. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from watercourses.
