The North Bay District MNR is advising area residents that a "Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook" is in effect for this area as of 4 p.m.

A flood outlook gives early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high winds or other conditions.

Residents should be aware that conditions could be dangerous.  Special caution should be used around lakes, rivers and streams.

Please alert any children under your care to these dangers and supervise their activities.

The system that moved into the Province over the weekend will remain over the Province today.

The system is forecast to linger over the Province on Tuesday and is forecast to drop 5mm of residual precipitation with up to 10mm in localized areas across northeastern, south and central Ontario.

Temperatures are forecast to drop as the system weakens with forecast high temperatures across eastern and central Ontario for Tuesday in the 5-10 C range with forecast lows around 0 to 5 C.

Temperatures are forecast to remain below average for the rest of the week and are forecast in the -5 to 5 C range.  There is a chance of light showers in some of the forecast area through the remainder of the week but the precipitation amounts will be low (1 to 3mm).

Description of Current Conditions

Significant and continuing snowmelt is expected to continue through the central and northeastern region through those areas with remaining snow on ground.  Areas that are expected to receive higher rain amounts should expect higher and more marked river response.

Rivers and streams will continue their seasonal increase in levels and flows as the spring melt continues northward and moderate risks of ice jam formation exist, due to the heavy ice cover that formed through the winter. There have already been reports of flooding that is impacting travel along some provincial highways and local roads in the northeastern region.
