Fleeing driver arrested

The driver of a pickup truck that caused an accident in North Bay, then fled police to Sturgeon Falls Tuesday has been arrested.

At approximately 8:17 a.m., Tuesday, OPP officers were called to a traffic accident on Highway 17 at Gormanville Road.

Officers began an investigation and found that a pickup truck, turning from Gormanville Road onto Highway 17, had turned into oncoming traffic, collided with and pushed a vehicle that was stopped at the red light. 

Police were told that the driver of the pickup truck had fled the scene and headed west on Highway 17. 

Officers saw the pickup truck near Sturgeon Falls but while trying to stop it, the pickup hit an OPP cruiser and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. 

With the help of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Aviation Services, the driver was found and arrested. 

Roch Pellerin, 26, of West Nipissing, was charged with:

  • Careless Driving;
  • Fail to Remain;
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and
  • Flight While Pursued by a Peace Officer. 

Pellerin was released on a Promise to Appear and will attend court in North Bay on December 11..
