Blowing snow and low visibilities this afternoon.

Winter storm warning..An intense low east of Timmins continues to track north and will race into Québec just east of James Bay by this evening. General snowfall amounts today will range from 10 to 15 centimetres. Multiple bands of lake effect snow will persist over areas to the Lee of Lake Superior raising snowfall amounts there into the 20 to 30 centimetres range especially north of Sault Ste Marie and south of Wawa. Very strong winds gusting to 100 km/h will cause frequent whiteout conditions. Winds of 50 km/h with gusts to 80 km/h have been creating blizzard conditions with low wind chill values near minus 25 at Sault Ste Marie this morning. Web cameras in the area are showing whiteout conditions at this time. Conditions are expected to improve in the Sault Ste Marie early this afternoon when winds weaken a bit. Once the snow area from the storm pulls out later today snowsqualls will continue to come in off of Lake Superior into the Superior east area from about Searchmont to Batchawana Bay. The winter storm warning here will likely evolve into a snowsquall warning later today as a result.

Wind chill warning..A strong blast of Arctic air is resulting in wind chills of minus 40 to minus 50 across most of northwestern Ontario today and tonight. Exposed skin may freeze in 10 minutes or less.

Blowing snow warning..Strong westerly winds in the wake of the cold front combined with fresh snow is causing extensive reduced visibilities in blowing snow and whiteout conditions. Whiteout conditions will continue for several hours after the cold frontal passage.
