First adoptee Phoebe makes fast friends with new fur-ever family

Phoebe is the first pet to be officially adopted through the $2.4 million Companions for Change Pet Adoption and Wellness Centre at the North Bay and District Humane Society

Following the loss of their family dog last fall, North Bay's Christine Brereton and her sons Trent and Reed were ready to take the plunge with an adopted puppy.

As fate would have it, Phoebe, a two-month-old shepherd mix, found them on their visit to the North Bay and District Humane Society last week.

Monday, Brereton and her family — Phoebe included — were recognized for being the first official adoption to take place in the Companions for Change Pet Adoption and Wellness Centre, as supporters celebrated the facility's grand opening.

Brereton said the "timing felt right" for her family to make the move to adopt Phoebe.
