UPDATED: Fire totally destroys home

The Fire Marshall was investigating Sunday morning.

UPDATE:

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders tells BayToday that there were no injuries, and the total destruction  of the home is making it hard to determine a cause or origin.

-----

A house fire early Sunday morning completely destroyed a wood frame single story home.

The house was empty at the time.

Details are few, but the blaze started just after 1 a.m. Sunday at 3985 Highway 63.

Because of the lack of fire hydrants on Highway 63 the fire crew was forced to use what is called a Port-a-Tank. The vinyl pool is about 10 feet square and 29 inches high.It holds about 1,500 gallons of water.

A tanker truck fills the tank, then speeds off the closest hydrant or waterway to refill.

On a fire like this one, the tank's water supply will be depleted in just over one minute.

The Fire Marshall was investigating the fire late this morning.
