Today the North Bay Professional Fire Fighters Association held their 21st annual Christmas Choir for seniors. The annual event is held a week or two before Christmas at Leisureworld and Cassellholme. Over 20 active and retired fire fighters participated to bring much anticipated joy to the residents.

John Sutherland, retired North Bay Platoon Chief, has been organizing the day of festive singing for 21 years.
"Every year I get the phone call to bring out the guys and girls to spend a couple hours entertaining our senior citizens. And every year the Fire Fighters and staff step up and give them their time," said Sutherland.

"We are not the greatest singers but it's clear how much joy everyone gets out of it. We sing a number of old songs and they love it. Some of the residents even get up and dance with the nurses. The residents tell us over and over how they have been waiting all year for the fire fighters to come back and sing. It is really something to see," Sutherland added.

The fire fighters choir started at Leisureworld around 9:30 am. After a lunch provided by the Fire Fighters Association at a local restaurant, the choir started entertaining Cassellholme residents around 2:00 p.m. The choir has fire fighters as new as six months on the job and fire fighters who have been retired for 20 years with everything in between.

“I hope and expect we will be doing this for many years to come,” said Sutherland.
