Fire fighter ordered into Love pipeline video against his will

"My member was ordered to participate against his will because he was on-duty."

This firefighter was included in the TransCanada Pipeline video against his will, charged the Association President.

A North Bay firefighter that appeared in the controversial TransCanada video was forced to do so says the president of the North Bay Professional Firefighters Association Robb Roy.

"When I first saw the video you (BayToday) posted a few weeks ago I was flabbergasted that the former fire chief would do that, and very concerned that one of my members is in that video," said Roy.

The firefighter is seen in the video putting on his jacket and getting in a fire truck.

"I didn't want anybody to think the association participated or condoned this video. Actually, I think it's disgusting that he (Love) did that."

Roy says the Association knew nothing about the video being produced.

"My member was ordered to participate against his will because he was on-duty and it's my understanding he was also ordered to sign a release so the video could be published online. We don't approve of that, and I'm a little disappointed that the fire chief did that. I want to make it clear the Association is not involved in the production of this video and the fact one of my members is in it, he did that against his will. He didn't even realize what the video was about. He said he didn't want to participate but he was directly ordered to. That's highly inappropriate."

Roy is concerned that the public may mistakenly think the Firefighters Association had something to do with the video and that his association will be grouped into what the fire chief did.

"We don't have a position on the Energy East Pipeline. It's a political issue and we're not getting involved. The Association's position has always been the health, safety, and welfare of the members and the citizens of North Bay. I want to make sure we're not painted with the same brush."
