Fight with weapon closes Huntsville public school

Huntsville OPP have arrested a man after a report of a weapon being used near a public school in Huntsville. The school was placed on a hold and secure until after the arrest.

At noon yesterday, officers responded to a report of men fighting on Susan Street and an initial report was that one had a weapon. Police arrived and arrested him.

The weapon was an expandable baton. It was seized by police during the arrest.

Richard Ryan, 42, of Huntsville was arrested and charged with:  

  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance  
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Causing a disturbance

Ryan has been held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.
