The McGuinty Liberals’ Northern Growth Plan shows how desperate and out of touch the McGuinty government has become, said Nipissing PC candidate Victor Fedeli. After eight years of policies dictated from a Toronto boardroom, the announcement of a northern ‘think tank’ won’t fool northern families.

Fedeli said the Ontario PC Team was proud to stand with northerners in opposing the damaging Far North Act that was pushed through by the McGuinty government without consulting northern families and businesses. A government led by Tim Hudak will scrap this bad bill that puts a straightjacket on northern growth, said Fedeli. The Ontario PCs have committed to listening and consulting with northern families.

Northern families will have a clear choice on October 6 between the McGuinty government that is out of touch with their needs and all too often makes decisions with little regard as to how they impact northern communities, and an Ontario PC Government that will respect their tax dollars, and give them relief.

QUOTES

“Charting a new course to northern jobs and growth must include northern input. The Ontario PCs have committed to repealing the damaging Far North Act that was pushed through without consulting northern families and businesses. A Tim Hudak Government will respect that every tax dollar comes from hard working families and provide relief from Dalton McGuinty's endless tax hikes. We’ll listen and consult rather than drawing up plans in a Toronto boardroom.”
- Victor Fedeli, Nipissing, Ontario PC Candidate

“Northern Ontario needs jobs, not think tanks. While mills were closing all over the North, the Liberals spent eight years coming up this? They are getting more desperate as the clock toward change starts to tick – they can’t undo eight years of damage in just a few months. A PC Government will listen to northerners instead of imposing Toronto schemes on northern families without consultation.”
- Victor Fedeli, Nipissing, Ontario PC Candidate

QUICK FACTS:

• A Conference Board of Canada report released last week showed the effect that Dalton McGuinty's bad policies have had on Northern Ontario. It had the 2nd worst growth of any region in Canada and high energy prices have driven jobs from Northern Ontario.

• Organizations that oppose Dalton McGuinty’s Far North Act include the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities, Ontario Mining Association, Ontario Real Estate Association and Ontario Chamber of Commerce. The Far North Act choked off 50 per cent of northern Ontario from future economic development at a time when northern families need new jobs and investment.

• Dalton McGuinty has presided over the loss of 45,000 northern jobs and the closure of 60 mills.
