The North East LHIN (NE LHIN) failed to meet any of its 14 performance targets in 2010-11, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli revealed today.

“This is a dismal result that is simply unacceptable,” said Fedeli.

The 14 performance indicators are outlined in the Ministry-LHIN Performance Agreement which covers delivery of local health care and services. The indicators include wait times for procedures like cancer and cardiac surgeries, diagnostic procedures and ER lengths of stay.

In all 14, the North East LHIN failed to meet performance targets, which are listed on page 10 of their recently released 2010-11 annual report.

At the same time, the CEO of the North East LHIN saw her salary increase 29% from $193,462 in 2010 to $250,000 in 2011.

“It appears the price of failure at the North East LHIN is a $56,000 salary bump,” Fedeli said in disgust.

Since 2006, the number of people on the Sunshine List at the North East LHIN has increased fivefold from three to 15, while the cost of executive salaries has increased from $416,000 to over $1.8 million annually.

In 2011, the North East LHIN wasted $4.7 million health care dollars on administration – a 51 per cent increase since it was created.

“This is all proof there is absolutely no accountability at the LHINs,” said Fedeli.

“This unnecessary level of bureaucracy is sucking hundreds of millions of dollars away from front-line health care and the LHINs need to be scrapped.”
