Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is pleased with several brief but productive conversations he’s had this week with the new Northern Development and Natural Resources Ministers.

Fedeli addressed the future of Ontario Northland in impromptu conversations with MNDM Minister Michael Gravelle on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I’ve provided the Minister with a copy of my letter to the Auditor General which shows there are no savings to be had in the Liberals’ fire sale of Ontario Northland,” said Fedeli.

Fedeli has also had a phone conversation and two face-to-face chats at the Legislature with MNR Minister David Orazietti regarding the recent restrictions placed on the Lake Nipissing walleye fishery.

“Our discussion on the fishery focused on options and solutions available and we’ll continue to talk about it,” said Fedeli.

“Let me be perfectly clear – they both understand I disagree with the government’s overall direction, but that won’t stop me from continuing to reach out across the aisle to ensure the priorities of Nipissing are on the government’s radar,” Fedeli said.

“It’s important the lines of communication remain open to resolve these important local issues, and others, such as infrastructure needs including renovations at Memorial Gardens and the government dock in Callander.”

Fedeli has also spoken by phone with Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli, and mentioned to Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer he hopes to soon discuss issues surrounding the Algonquin Land Claim in more detail.
