Sudbury - The investigation of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision, which occurred on August 9, 2008 at approximately 11:36 am on Highway 69 near the Pine Grove Gold Club, is ongoing by members of the Sudbury O.P.P. Detachment and Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a silver 2008 Pontiac Vibe and a black 2001 Honda Accord were both northbound on Highway 69. As the vehicles approached the end of a northbound passing lane section of the Highway contact occurred between the two vehicles. This contact caused the black Honda to lose control, cross the southbound lane and enter the west ditch where it impacted a rock face. The Pontiac maintained control and came to rest on the shoulder of the Highway. It was raining and the Highway was wet at the time of the collision.

The Pontiac Vibe had two occupants from Bracebridge. Both were uninjured. The Honda had three family members from Scarborough. The driver Tin-Chor LEE (age 58) and his daughter Sylvia LEE (age 31) were pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Tin-Chor’s wife, Lai Chun LEE (age 56), was transported to St. Joseph’s medical centre, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Highway 69 was completely closed for approximately 4 hours. A detour was established around the crash location, via Highways 17 and 537. At approximately 4:00 p.m. one lane of Highway 69 was re-opened. Highway 69 was completely accessible by 7:00 pm Saturday night.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the investigating officer, Constable Andre Taschereau with their information.
