Fatal MVC closes Hwy 17 Update

OPP identified the victims of the fatal MVC on Hwy 17. They are a 42 year old Laurentian Valley man and a 23 year old man and a 34 year old man, both from the Upper Ottawa Valley.

The Ontario Provincial Police advise motorists that as of 5:15 pm Hwy 17 at Mattawa is open.

At approximately 5:40am today, officers of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 at McIsaac Drive, Bissett Creek.

One vehicle caught fire after the collision. Two people are confirmed deceased. One person was ejected. They were flown by air ambulance to hospital with serious injuries.

Highway 17 is closed between Mattawa and Deep River. Due to the location of the collision, an alternate detour route is not available. The highway will be closed until later this afternoon.

Traffic is encouraged to travel through Algonquin Park on Hwy 60.

The OPP are asking motorists to avoid the immediate area until further notice.

Information will be released as it becomes available.

The Ontario Provincial Police advise motorists that as of 7:45 am Hwy 17 at Mattawa is closed due to a serious motor vehicle collision west of Bissett Bridge.

There is no detour at this time and the estimated duration of closure is unknown
