Fatal collision in Mattawa

Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Saturday morning in Mattawa. At approximately 2:30 a.m.

Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Saturday morning in Mattawa.  

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), North Bay and District Ambulance Service (Mattawa) and the Mattawa Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bissett and 12th Street in Mattawa.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve at the intersection of Bissett and 12th Street before losing control and subsequently came to rest against a storage out-building.  As a result of the collision, one of the passengers succumbed to their injuries. 

The driver and second passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.  Speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator and the North East OPP Highway Safety Division are assisting the Mattawa OPP in this ongoing investigation. 

Identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
