Fatal collision closes highway

A two vehicle collision near Temagami took the life of a Haileybury man yesterday. Temagami OPP responded to the fatal motor vehicle collision shortly before 7:00 p.m.

A two vehicle collision near Temagami took the life of a Haileybury man yesterday.

Temagami OPP responded to the fatal motor vehicle collision shortly before 7:00 p.m.

The collision occurred on Highway 11 at Milne-Sherman Road, just north of Temagami. 

A southbound car lost control, entered the northbound lane and struck an oncoming tractor trailer. Police say it was snowing heavily at the time.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Louis Pleau, 41, of Notre-Dame-du-Nord was not injured. 

The driver of the automobile, Kristian Preston, 30, of Haileybury was pronounced dead at the scene. 

There were no passengers in the vehicles.

The Temagami Fire Department and the District of Temiskaming Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with this ongoing investigation.

Highway 11 was closed for approximately 7.5 hours as a result of the collision.
