North Bay – Carolyn McLachlan of Port Dover and Allan “Derb” McLachlan of Powassan, parents of Private Brayden McLachlan who died in a single-vehicle accident on Sunday, May 1st, near Brandon, Manitoba, are issuing the following statement today:

“We are both saddened at the sudden loss of our son Brayden. Although he only lived for a short time his energy and outgoing nature was felt by all who knew him. He was proud to be an infantryman and prouder still to be part of the Second Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.”

Pte McLachlan joined the Canadian Forces in 2009 and requested and was assigned to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo, Manitoba, with 2 PPCLI. He was a tremendous hockey fan and an enthusiastic athlete. Easy to love, Brayden formed everlasting bonds with his large family, especially his nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours in Powassan, students at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall and later with this military family at CFB Shilo. Those lucky to meet Brayden were quick to catch his contagious smile. Proud to serve his country, Pte McLachlan will be tremendously missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Brayden’s memory can be made to the “Soldier On” charity and would be greatly appreciated by the family. Please contact the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan at 705-724-2024 or e-mail [email protected] for more information.
