Explosion investigation continues

At 6:30 am on Saturday 09 December 06 a family of four a father, uncle and two teenage children were staying in a small travel trailer at a hunt camp in a remote area off of Green Bush Road in Howland Township 20 kms west of Little Current.

At 5:30 am one of the adult males attempted to light a propane lantern when a huge explosion took place in the trailer. All four persons received extensive burns from the explosion. One of the adult males managed to call for help via 911 on the cell phone. The Northeast Manitoulin & the Islands Fire Dept responded along with members of the Ontario Provincial Police.

The members of the family have been identified as Ralph Walker age 37, Barry Walker age 40, Samantha Walker age 15, and Zachariah Walker age 17 all from Sudbury, Ontario.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and air lifted Ralph Walker who received extensive burns to the Sunnybrook Burn Centre in Toronto where he remains in critical condition. The other three people were taken to the Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current. Barry & Zachariah Walker remain in hospital and Samantha Walker has been released and returned home.
