The excitement is growing as the new Almaguin H.S.S. starts. On June 12 the ground breaking ceremony occurred without rain and it was well attended. Dignitaries such as Monique Smith, Norm Miller, Tony Clement, helped the Director, Heli Vail, Chair Alan Bottomley, and three representative students from the past, current and future school populations (Shawna Tardif, Eric Langford and Marissa Johnston) to break the ground for the new school.

By Tuesday the construction company chosen to build the school began getting its equipment assembled. The work began on Thursday. The whole community of the Almaguin area can now look forward to the school’s completion by September, 2011. Fraser Wardle, the Board’s project manager will be meeting with staff in final meetings to check for any glitches in the interior design and functions of the school to fine tune the building.

The ACCESS committee which has taken on the job of raising funds to augment the school’s ability for community and student use started an online auction on June 12. There is a beautiful blue Swift Kevlar canoe up for bids as well as weekly items such as gift certificates, a camera, golf packages, accommodation prizes and much more. To see what is available and to make a bid go to www.almaguinauction.com. All proceeds will go to the school for community use facilities. Make plans to join us fro the opening ceremonies on Labour Day weekend, 2011. It will be a good time.
