An officer from the Powassan Detachment of the OPP has been targeting drivers for failing to move over for emergency vehicles on Highway 11 in the Powassan area.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the officer ticketed eight drivers for the offence.

Watch how easily it can happen:

The Move Over Law was enacted in Ontario in 2003 as a means of protecting emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) personnel who respond to incidents on the roadside.

It is the responsibility of all licensed motorists to be aware of and comply with Ontario's Move Over Law by slowing down for emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside and moving over to the next lane if possible.

Highway 11, in that area, has two lanes in each direction which gives drivers ample opportunity to move into the left lane.
