Easter eggs-travaganza

The weather may have looked more like Christmas then Easter, but that didn’t stop Discovery North Bay from hosting the annual Hershey Giant Easter Egg Hunt.
The weather may have looked more like Christmas then Easter, but that didn’t stop Discovery North Bay from hosting the annual Hershey Giant Easter Egg Hunt.

Hundreds of kids with family in tow, and some political types, turned out to Thompson Park for a quick hug from the Easter Bunny, face painting, a tour of a fire truck, but most importantly the kids turned out for the mad dash out onto a field laden in Easter treats to fill their baskets.

“It didn't deter us one bit,” states Discovery North Bay Director, Jennifer Buell.

“We've done this event in rain, snow and muddy conditions, just about everything, so we are prepared for it all.”

What started as a small idea with no title sponsor nine years ago has blossomed into the signature event for Discovery North Bay.

"It's a major fundraiser and Hershey comes through every year for us. This year they've donated over 10,000 chocolate bars for the event,” says Buell.

The organising committee has kept the basic principles of having a fun, quick and affordable event in place over the years making the egg hunt the highlight of the holiday weekend for kids, parents and grandparents.

“It's a great family event, and our commitment to the community, I think is very obvious and we're happy to be able to run a great spring event,” states Buell.

“Usually we get a little bit warmer weather, but were ready for it and it's great.”

The money raised from the egg hunt is directed back to museum operations that cover everything from educational programs to the actual exhibits.
