Forest Fire situation report for Monday July 23rd

HIGHLIGHTS:

- 4 new; 7 active fires
- 275 fires; 2862.9 hectares to date since Apr.1st

DETAILS:

There have been 4 new fires in the last 24 hours: Sault Ste. Marie 35, 36, and 36, they are 0.2, 0.1 and 0.3 hectares in size respectively and are all not yet under control.

Cochrane 28 is a 0.1 hectare fire southwest of the community of Fort Severn. Sault Ste. Marie 35 & 36 are southwest of Ranger Lake and Sault 37 is southeast of Moccasin Lake. Active fires include; Cochrane 20 & 22 – two lightning fires, west of Fort Albany, that are being observed.

There will continue to be sunny and dry conditions in the south and the northeast portions of the East Fire Region. There will be clouds, showers, and probable thunderstorms across the Hudson Bay Zone, with clearing skies for the Fort Severn and Big Trout Lake areas through the morning. The winds will be light to moderate, while the temperatures will be above normal.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations. Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
