Dunaj the Downtown Doberman may be may out of reach in the United States, but its owner Rob Szalas will now face the courts in Canada.

"Yes we will," said Dr. Jim Chirico, when asked by BayToday if the Health Unit will now pursue court action.

Chirico says that will happen almost immediately if Szalas doesn't give the dog up.

"I can't speak to how quickly the court system will move," Chirico added.

"The way we are proceeding is that Mr. Szalas was served with a court order to surrender his dog. If he fails to do so, it's in the hands of the court and he may be found to be in contempt of court. If that's the case it's up to the courts to then decide what they are going to do with Mr. Szalas."

The comments were part of a half hour long interview conducted late Friday afternoon. The story will be updated.
