About 30 homes on Airport Road and Carmichael Drive lost power Sunday night after a dump truck accidentally brought down some wires.

The accident occurred around 6 p.m. at the Airport Road home of John Chalmers, owner of J. Chalmers and Son Haulage.

Chalmers had just dumped a load of earth onto his front lawn and then started to drive forward.

"My son and I were talking and I didn't put my box down," Chalmers told baytoday.ca.

A North Bay Hydro crew was on the scene making repairs.

"The driver knocked over a Bell pole which carried phone cable and power transformers too, so that's why the power went out," said North Bay Hydro supervisor Brian Close.
Temporary repairs were made to get the power back on, Close said, and Bell will be on the scene Monday to complete the work.

There were no injuries.

"Sometimes these things happen," Close said.
