UPDATED: Arrests made (Driving west? Avoid hitch-hikers say police)

Update at 1:26 p.m.

At approximately 12:45 pm on  November 4, 2016 both suspects were located and are now in police custody.

Update: At approximately 12:15 pm yesterday, a vehicle was seen driving erratically on Highway 17 east towards Sault Ste. Marie. 

OPP pulled the vehicle over and as the officer approached the vehicle the driver and two passengers fled by driving into the City of Sault Ste. Marie.  The vehicle was reported stolen.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. the vehicle was seen on Pickard Road in Goulais River.  A spike belt was deployed by police and the vehicle was stopped. 

Two people from the vehicle fled into the bush area while a third person was arrested.

Sault Ste. Marie OPP, the Emergency Response Team, the Emergency Response Unit, and Canine Unit are currently conducting a ground search around the vicinity of Pickard Road in the Goulais River area for a male and female suspect.

It is believed that the suspects may be in the vicinity of Highway 17 North in Goulais River and police are asking passing motorists to exercise caution and not pick up any hitchhikers.

OPP Aviation Services – Helicopter Unit has now been deployed and will be searching the area.

Police are asking residents in the area to ensure that their vehicle and homes are locked.

Residents are urged to contact police to report any suspicious activity in the area. Police have not released details of why the couple are being sought.
