Driver who hits rock cut faces impaired charges

The OPP have charged a 39-year-old Chisholm Township man with impaired charges after a single-vehicle collision in Callander. 

On November 11 at approximately 2:30 a.m., the North Bay OPP was called to investigate a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in the Municipality of Callander.  

Police say the vehicle hit a rock-cut and landed back on the highway blocking the southbound lanes.   

The driver was arrested for impaired driving at the scene.   

As a result of the investigation, Derek Coughlin, age 39, of Chisholm Township, was charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs and
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand. 

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 19, 2019.   

The accused was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.  

The OPP say these charges mark 55 drivers charged under Criminal Impaired Driving Laws in the North Bay Detachment area in 2019. 

In 2018, North Bay OPP charged 49 drivers.
