On July 10th, a theft call was received by West Nipissing Police from a Main St. home.  Police arrived and were told that a large piece of driftwood was stolen from a man's front yard sometime overnight.

The piece of wood is very large and unique according to the owner. (See above picture) There are no suspects at this time but police are still investigating.

Meanwhile on the same day police were called to a restaurant located on Front St. regarding a coffee pot theft.

Officers were shown surveillance video from earlier that morning. It showed three men entering the store. One of them reached over, taking a coffee pot and bringing it to the table.  Then another male took the pot and left the store.

These men were identified and later arrested.  A 21 year and a 20 year old were both charged with "Theft Under $5,000" and later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions that they stay out of the restaurant.

West Nipissing Police did have more serious crimes over the past week however.

They were called to a motel located on Hwy 17 in Verner in relation to an assault. The female victim said that while she was visiting a neighbor, he grabbed her by the hair dragging her out.  The 57 year old suspect was arrested and taken back to police headquarters where he was charged with one count of "Assault" and released on a Promise to Appear.

A 35 year old Jocko Point resident has been charged with numerous property offences after a complaint was received from hospital staff.

On Wednesday, a call was received from the hospital regarding a suspicious female walking the halls.

Upon arrival, officers were told of thefts from staff and patients but the suspect had fled prior to police arrival.

Later police received another call from a pizza shop saying that there was an unknown female that was found in their storage room.  The officers were given a description of the suspect, which matched the suspect from the hospital incident.

This person was soon located on Front St where she was arrested.

Upon a search of her purse, officers seized items matching the stolen items from the hospital.

The accused female was charged with Break and Enter, Theft Under $5,000 and two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
