For the first time ever a dragon paid a visit to City Hall!

It was a friendly stop put on by the North Bay Taoist Tai Chi Society.

“They came to bring greetings and blessings in North Bay and prosperity to all that meet the dragon,” says long time member and tai chi instructor, Dawn Wallace.

Mayor Al McDonald was the first to officially greet the dragon. Soon after, he asked to lead the dragon around the square.

“To have them here bringing prosperity and wealth to city hall and to our community and the symbol of what that stands for is a very nice touch.”

The Taoist Tai Chi branch of North Bay has close to two hundred members from as far away as New Liskeard and Sudbury. It is celebrating its 35th anniversary in the city and says the dragon is part of a cultural exchange.

“These are traditional Chinese dragons that were made in China and were brought to Orangeville and assembled.”

However they will soon disappear, so they can tour other areas of the province.

It’s a great ceremony. It brings a lot of colour and history, fun and spirit, it’s just wonderful to see,” adds McDonald.
