Downtown fire destroys home UPDATED (VIDEO)

An east-end city home was destroyed by fire this morning

A Regina St. fire between Worthington St. and First Avenue in the east end of North Bay has destroyed a two-story home.

There were no injuries reported.

The fire was called in just before 8 a.m.

"The first crew was on scene under four minutes," stated Jason Whiteley, North Bay Fire Chief.

"Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of a two-story stone and wood construction residence."

Whiteley says there were some serious concerns as fire crews received contradictory reports of occupants in the building.

"Fire crews initiated a transitional attack and then entered the structure to ensure that nobody was inside," he said.

"Crews had to enter several times to check for occupants and fortunately no one was inside the structure. There were no injuries as well."

Whiteley adds that North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office and North Bay Police remain on scene investigating the fire. The house did suffer extreme fire damage, a dollar loss value has not yet been determined."

Fire crews did a good job containing the blaze to the one structure.

Hydro was cut to the area and police have shut down Regina Street between Worthington and First as they battled the fire.
