North Bay Police arrested and charged two teenagers who are accused of stealing an SUV in Callander early yesterday morning.

They were also charged for a break and enter which occurred in Callander in June.

At approximately 2:55 a.m., the teens were in an SUV driving North on Main Street in Callander when they passed an oncoming North Bay Police cruiser that was on general patrol.

The driver reacted by abruptly swerving into a parking lot and abandoning the SUV. Both fled into the bushes on foot.

At approximately 3:08 a.m., the owner of the SUV reported to police that his vehicle had been stolen.

Shortly thereafter, North Bay Police, with the assistance of the OPP canine unit, successfully located the two thieves.

They were both arrested and charged with one count each of theft of motor vehicle.

Following an investigation into a break and enter and theft that occurred at a home in Callander on Sunday June 15th North Bay Police also charged the two teenagers with one count each of break enter and commit.

They were both held in custody pending bail.

Meanwhile over the Civic Holiday weekend, the North Bay Police responded to 362 calls that resulted in 29 arrests.

Offences included public intoxication, theft under $5000, domestic assault, theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, drug possession, impaired driving, fare fraud, criminal harassment, assault bodily harm, breaches and warrants.
