Don’t fall for this door to door scam

The City of North Bay says they have nothing to do with a door to door canvas which involves canvassers claiming to be with the City of North Bay.

They are advising residents that the City water supply is “contaminated and the home owner needs to purchase a water filter to ensure safe drinking water.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch, who is the Chair of Engineering, Public Works and Environmental Services cautions residents about the door to door scam.

“They tell the residents that they will install a filter and that the company will credit them $9.00 per month to have the filter in their home . . . all they need is a VOID cheque from the resident,” she stated on social media Monday morning.

“They imply that they are representing the City of North Bay. Our dispatchers have received calls from residents that continue today and they have been advising residents to contact the police.”

Residents are advised, if they are approached by any individual(s) claiming to represent the City of North Bay, that they ask to view their City issued identification and/or contact our Public Works Dispatch at (705)   474-4340.
