Domestic investigation leads police to armed robbery arrest

The North Bay Police have made a pair of arrests after investigating a domestic violence incident on December 5.  

The police say the female victim attended the police service making allegations of two separate incidents of physical abuse involving her male boyfriend which occurred on December 3 and 4, 2019 at their residence in North Bay.

During the investigation, it was revealed that at some time overnight between December 4 and December 5, 2019, a third male, known to both individuals and armed with a shotgun, had forced his way into the McNamara Street residence and stole a sum of money.

Police say during the incident, the firearm was pointed in the direction of the female and threats were made.

The second individual was observed by police in a vehicle on December 5, 2019. The vehicle was stopped in North Bay and the suspect was safely arrested.

During a search, the officers located a homemade handgun, a pair of brass knuckles, a container of suspected psilocybin mushrooms (magic mushrooms) weighing approximately 11.5 grams. 

Police also recovered the shotgun used in the robbery.

As a result of the investigation a 26-year-old man from North Bay has been arrested and charged with:

  • One Count of Assault with a Weapon;
  • One Count of Assault; and
  • One Count of Utter Threats.

This second male, a 25-year-old from North Bay, has been arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • One Count of Pointing a Firearm
  • One Count of Uttering Threats to Cause Death;
  • One Count of Robbery;
  • One Count of Possession of a Prohibited Firearm;
  • One Count of Transport Firearm in a Careless Manner;
  • One Count of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon;
  • One Count of Possession of a Schedule III Substance (suspected magic mushrooms);
  • One Count of Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order; and
  • One Count of Breach of Recognizance

Both males were remanded into custody for bail hearings at the North Bay Courthouse.

In order to protect the identity of the victim, the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing the names of either accused.
