A dog attack this week could have turned deadly after one man grabbed a rifle and another man threatened to shoot a couple as they passed by his home.

On Sunday Jan 15th, West Nipissing Police Service got a call for help at a Hwy 539 house.

A man complained that he had been assaulted by another man that had just entered his house without permission.

Police say it started when the homeowner heard some barking outside and noticed a large dog attacking his own dog that was tied up.

He yelled at the dog but it did not stop, so he grabbed his .22 Cal rifle.

The dog fled the property but the man followed with the intention of speaking to the owner.

He then spoke to a woman and complained that her dog had just attacked his dog.

Fifteen minutes later another man entered the complainant’s home without permission and grabbed him by the neck.

The attacker was pushed out of the house but refused to leave the property.

The complainant’s girlfriend told the attacker to leave, at which time he threatened to shoot them when they drive by his home.

Police have arrested and charged one man with:

  • assault,
  • unlawfully being in a dwelling and
  • uttering threats.

Police did not release the charged man's name.
