Dog attack on child causes severe injuries

A trip to Mattawa's Santa Claus parade turned tragic yesterday for a child.

Police say yesterday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m., a mother and her 22 month old son were on their way to the Mattawa Santa Claus Parade. 

The child was in a stroller and they were on Park Street near Division when a large black dog with short hair and pointed ears lunged into the stroller and attacked the small child.

The child sustained severe injuries to his face before the mom was able to pull the dog away. The child was brought to hospital for medical attention.

Mattawa OPP have canvassed the area and they are unable to locate the dog.

Any person who may have witnessed the attack or have information about the dog or who the owner of the dog is, should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
