(North Bay, ON) – North Bay OPP Snow Machine/Marine Unit and the OPP Under Water Search and Recovery Unit (U.S.R.U.) have temporarily stopped their search/recovery for 18 year old Daniel Jarbeau of Field, Ontario.

On Sunday January 22nd, 2006, Jarbeau went missing after the snow machine he was a passenger on, entered open waters of the French River.

Over the past eight (8) days, since the mishap, OPP Divers have thoroughly searched for Jarbeau in an area off Hunt Island in the French River even though the weather, ice and water conditions have been unpredictable.

At this time, U.S.R.U. Divers have not located Jarbeau and have decided to stop the search for now. They will reconvene the recovery when environmental conditions improve.

The OPP Helicopter will periodically fly over the French River to check for open water and an opportunity for divers to search again.

BAYSAR (North Bay Air Search and Rescue) volunteers have also been given global positioning coordinates of the search area and are willing to assist.

They already have a had aircraft in the area searching over the French River checking for open water. The organization will continue to check this area periodically.

The North Bay OPP caution ice fishermen and snow machine operators to utilize extreme caution in the French River because of the unpredictable ice and water conditions. ‘If You Don’t Know, Don’t Go!’
