On the evening of Friday, February 1, 2013, two Armour Twp men aged 35 and 61 were at their hunt camp northwest of Magnetawan. The two men went for a snowmobile ride and became stuck in a swamp. After failing to get the snowmobile unstuck and getting wet in the process, the younger man used his cell phone to call for assistance. The older man had also lost his boots in the swamp and the situation was becoming serious as the temperature was approaching minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Almaguin Highlands OPP officers, members of the OPP’s Northeast Region Emergency Response Team, the Magnetawan and South River Volunteer Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services all responded to the area to look for the men.

They were eventually located and transported by ambulance to hospital to be treated for exposure. The younger man has since been released and the older man has been transferred to Sunnybrook Health Centre for further treatment.
