A Sturgeon Falls man has been fined $1,000 for an offence under the Public Lands Act.

Roger Lamarche pleaded guilty to unlawfully dredging shore lands without a work permit.

Court heard that on September 3, a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officer received a complaint from the public.

Upon investigation, it was determined that on August 24, 2016, Lamarche rented a backhoe and removed a portion of an existing rock wall fronting a neighbour’s property on Lake Nipissing. Lamarche did not have the required work permits for this work, nor did he have permission from his neighbouring property owner.

Justice of the Peace Lauren Scully heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sturgeon Falls, on October 17.

The ministry says that work permits are required to conduct any work on shore lands.
