The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario (CSDNE) is thrilled to announce the results of its students at the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) for the year 2007.

The CSDNE posted a remarkable improvement of its students who were eligible to write the OSSLT for the first time in 2007, jumping from 12th to 3rd place among the 12 French language school boards in Ontario. The CSDNE achieved an overall success rate of 82%, which represents an increase of 21% compared to the 61% rate obtained in 2006.

Compared to last year’s results, École publique Renaissance of Timmins went from a 48% to a 90% success rate, while
L’Alliance of Iroquois Falls doubled its score from 41% to 80%, and École publique Odyssée of North Bay moved from 80% to 83%. For its part, École publique Northern de Sturgeon Falls had an 87% success rate in 2006 and maintained a high level of performance at 80% for 2007.

The Education and Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) published the OSSLT 2007 results based on the total number of students who fully participated in the test, rather than on the number of students who were eligible to write the test for the first time. The EQAO results took into account the number of students carried forward. Please visit the EQAO site at www.eqao.com for a more detailed report.

Mr. Ghislain Beaupré, Director of Managing Information for Student Achievement congratulates the Board’s students who wrote the OSSLT 2007. “The net improvement in the performance of our students is due in part to the deployment of persons responsible for the OSSLT in each of our secondary schools; it is also due to the close cooperation of all persons involved in the process, including parents. Those collective efforts helped raise our Board to the 3rd rank provincially. I wish to thank all members of our school personnel for their role in the academic success of our students.”

“We are committed more than ever to providing support to for our personnel to continue promoting the success of our students,” added Mr. Michel L. Robineau, Director of Education.
