The Crisis Centre opens its doors to the less fortunate but today it was opened to the community as a means to promote the 19-bed facility on Cassells Street provides.

“We have a 19-bed homeless centre here, we also have next door our futures centre which is an independent living program residential of youth 16 to 24 years of age,” said Crisis Centre Acting Executive Director Sue Rinneard.

“Within the shelter program we have a community mobile housing support worker, a community transitional housing support worker and a mobile youth outreach program.”

Rinneard says about 650 people used the facility last year which equaled about 5,000 bed days.

“They (The Crisis Centre Programs) are very very important to the public we served a lot of people within our shelter program last year,” she said.

The open house was open to the public for three hours Friday afternoon.

The Crisis Centre is a registered charity which was incorporated in 1972 under the direction of a fifteen member Board of Directors.
