A new North Bay multi-arts conference wants to help local artists love where they live.

The first-ever Creative Summit, running Thursday to Sunday at various venues throughout the city, aims to boost the local creative sector through a series of workshops, funders forums, and performances, highlighting the talent the city produces according to a news release from the group.

“North Bay is an emerging hub for art,” says Creative Industries’ Executive Director Jaymie Lathem. . “We are surrounded by the work of creatives in our city, from music and film to murals, theatre performances, and craftspeople. The Creative Summit is our chance to showcase how talented North Bayites really are and where they can go if we support them at the municipal level.”

The Creative Summit is the brainchild of arts advocacy organization Creative Industries whose mission is to support, connect and promote the creative sector to foster a progressive, prosperous community.

The conference kicks off Thursday with an Ignite North Bay presentation from Lathem and continues through to Sunday with a wide array of events, including a Super Gallery Hop and poetry slam, art talks, songwriting, and creative writing workshops and an Ontario Arts Council-led mock funding jury, all free of charge to the public.

“The creative sector is an emerging industry for North Bay. It’s more than a form of entertainment, it’s an important contributor to tourism and quality of life in the city and it’s creates jobs,” says Lathem. “Creative Industries was formed to connect people and support creatives in doing important work that will last generations. After all, all renowned artists are from somewhere. Why couldn't the next Alex Colville be from North Bay?”
