Creating stress by doing a project about stress

'Our most stressful thing was how can we make this interesting because we know everyone knows about stress because it happens in every day life.'

Getting ready for final exams or final projects is a stressful time of year for many students at Canadore College.

For Desiree Bott, Katie Lapierre, and Stephanie Bethune, they took on stress head on by doing a final project about stress.

“We did our booth about stress, we figured it would be the best right now considering exams and projects are going on,” said Desiree, who calls Alma, Ontario home.

Aside from a bulletin board describing the various forms of stress, these students created a remedy for stress by offering stress balls made of balloons filled with rice to offer other stressed out students.

“We find that stress balls help students relieve their stress,” said Bott.

“It works by playing with the ball and there’s other methods like working out, walking, just doing whatever you do to get your mind off stress.”

Bott’s project was part of a Health Fair in the main lobby at Canadore College put on by the school of sport and recreation at the North Bay college.

Topics varied from spices, to the effects of alcohol on the body, and even a booth about sleep deprivation.

“It was up to them to choose with a little bit of an approval process, so it wasn’t too crazy, but topics that were interesting to students,” stated instructor Michelle Cundari.

And yes, Bott admits doing a project about stress does not minimize any form of stress.

“Our most stressful thing was how can we make this interesting because we know everyone knows about stress because it happens in every day life so we figured by making ur own stress ball and adding pictures to the board that would make it more interesting,” she said.
