North Bay’s master set of zoning bylaws has been updated.

Ian Kilgour, Manager of Planning Services, explained the update occurs roughly ever three years to keep bylaws contemporary.

Changes include the adding or deleting of definitions, updating the lists of zones, and modifying lists of permitted uses and regulations.

However, council didn’t believe in the change intended to stop new “places of worship” from opening in the downtown core.

City staff recommended the amendment because of the possibility of limiting commercial development.

A rezoning application for a parcel of land on Seymour Street got the go ahead from the Community Services Committee Monday night.

If approved, a 100 unit hotel will be built at Seymour Street and HWY 17 near the Chamber of Commerce.

The Ministry of Transportation, said through correspondence to the city, that building and land use permits will not be issued until they are satisfied with traffic impacts of the proposed hotel.

Coun. Mike Anthony explained traffic increases caused by the hotel would be minor considering the area.

A vote on the matter will take place at the next council meeting.
